Neverland

Neverland

State of Mind

Although Never Never is a term for the remote Outback in Australia, (where Bentime Stories was eventually created) possibly serving as the inspiration for Neverland, I discovered that the real Neverland isn't actually a geographic location, but rather a state of mind where time, space, and place are transformed. Since I had never been to Neverland before, I felt very lost (geographically and psychospiritually). I found myself frequently reflecting about loneliness, home, friendships, identity, life, desires, existence, the past, and happiness. Eventually, I reached a raging river of reflections with rocky recollections and rainy remembrances that I couldn't weather. I tried to escape this state of Neverland with familiar distractions such as materialism, television, travel, tourism, and nostalgia but they only made me feel further lost. This time, there was no escaping forgotten memories, dark thoughts, repressed emotions, and troubling identity issues.

Adrift in the raging river of reflections, without guidance, purpose, or support--I found myself at the gates of spirituality where I discovered the art of compassion and suffering, particularly in a Buddhist framework. This ultimately allowed me to slowly build a raft that could flow with the river, sailing through my sparkling stream of consciousness.
